Sweet are the crepe myrtle,
blackberry and ice crean trucks.

May; it's the month of roses
and the Virgin Mary.

I drive past the Healdsburg Plaza
as if drawn by a guiding hand.

The post office where
once love letters hunkered
in cubbyholes like teenagers
parked in a lover's lane.

Write! Write! Write! Write with abandon!

As cool jazz plays beneath the bandshell a
puckish toddler splashes playfully in the fountain.

Vineyards alive with bright orange poppies
and wild sweet peas.

The river moves quietly to grape fields,
swimming pools and golf links.
